UNIQUE ARTISAN CHEESE
We are a family run business making traditional, unpasturised Gloucester cheese- The ONLY one in the world made exclusively from the milk of Gloucester cows.
Our Farm
Standish Park Farm is set on the edge of the Cotswold hills between Stroud and Gloucester, over-looking the Berkeley vale and the River Severn.
Twice a week we make Double and Single Gloucester cheese using only the milk from our beautiful, pedigree Gloucester cows which we have been breeding for over 30 years.
We milk about 15 at any one time in our small, traditional parlour.
Gloucesters, or Old Gloucesters as they should really be known, are one of the rarest breeds of cattle in the country.
Natural, wildlife -friendly pasture
We use no artificial fertilizers or chemicals, only good old farm manure. The farm is all permenant pasture and we make hay only for winter feed. Hay is much better for the wildlife and for the cows. By feeding on hay the cows produce better milk for cheese -making.
Prize-Winning Produce
We show our cows annually at agricultural shows and fairs. Both our Double and Single cheeses have won Champion and first prizes and so have our cows.
Our Animals
We live on a traditional mixed farm with a collection of rare breed animals.
We keep about 50 Gloucester cows altogether, including a bull and 25 cows. Some are nurse cows rearing the dairy cows' calves, bullocks and heiffers.
We also keep and breed Pedigree Gloucester Old Spot pigs; Pedigree Cotswold, Jacob, Lleyn, and Shetland sheep; Buff Back and Brecon Buff geese and a variety of ducks and chickens.
Our Beef
Our Gloucester bullocks produce the most excellent beef which is occassionally available from the farm or selected local butchers.
